Hola, Mi Gente!

Welcome to Latinx Intelligentsia!

This site is managed by La Profesora, Dra. Michelle Espino Lira!

I am a first-generation college student, Chicana feminist, and a professor in the field of higher education.

For the past 14 years, I have investigated the individual, organizational, and community factors that affect educational attainment for Latinx/a/o communities. Using critical perspectives, my work exposes the social inequities that undermine individual motivations to study and work in colleges and universities. My research has focused on educational pathways, graduate school access and persistence, and mentorship within tenure-track pathways. I have recently shifted focus to Latinx/a/o leadership in higher education.

My passion for cultivating Latinx/a/o educational success is rooted in my commitment to elevate and connect Latinx/a/o communities in innovative ways. In August 2019, I launched “Latinx Intelligentsia”, a podcast dedicated to uplifting Latinx/a/o students, scholars, practitioners, families, and communities as they journey to and through higher education.

Now in Season 7, I look forward to showcasing the efforts of Latinx/a/o students, faculty, administrators, and policymakers!

Latinx Intelligentsia is dedicated to building capacity and harnessing high-impact educational policies and practices to improve Latinx/a/o educational opportunity and social change!
